The 300 model and very similar 500 model were each made in two V.O. sizes; 4½" and 5¼". The breakaway traffic
feature is achieved by virtue of a breakable cast lug on each bolt that draws up against a snap ring
in the top of the lower barrel; and bottoms against the bottom of the upper barrel.
This is the Traffic 300 model. |

This hydrant is for warm climates and is sometimes called a wet riser type hydrant. On M&H drawings dated
November 26, 1958, it is called a Tropical Hydrant on one drawing, and Panama Canal Hydrant
on another. Both examples below are from Panama.
