Henry
Pratt
Co.
- Aurora, IL
Henry Pratt Company started business in 1901 as a job shop. Since then the company has provided products to the water distribution, water treatment, nuclear, fire protection, and power generation markets. More detail of their history can be found here. We at FireHydrant.org do not know of any connection between the Henry Pratt Co. of Aurora, IL and the former Pratt & Cady Co. of Hartford, CT who made PIVs and fire hydrants. Pratt calls their product PIVAs (Post Indicator Valve Assemblies). Their design is different from most in that they are butterfly valves rather than gate valves. So the "above ground" mechanism is far different; it consists of a gearbox with a hand crank. A worm gear on the hand crank rotates a mating gear on the shaft connected to the butterfly valve. |
